The art criticism process begins with describing exactly what you see. Then you have to analyze the piece using the elements/principles to reflect upon the art form. Then you have to consider what the artist is trying to say, what caused the artist to say it, what the historical milieu surrounds the work of art, and why the work of art was created in this particular style. Then you have to evaluate how successful or important the work of art is. This piece is a two-in-one piece. It has a pencil morphing into a tree, a hand morphing into a river, and a pencil mark morphing into a snake. This piece is done in watercolor. This piece took advantage of watercolor blending techniques. The composition of the piece places a hazy feel of this piece. What the artist is trying to do is to create a piece of surrealism. The piece of art was created using watercolor because it allowed the different elements of the piece to have colors that blend together gradually. This piece was successful because of the hazy atmosphere the piece successfully paints. There are many reasons that artists make art. Some artists make art simply for the reason many people do in class. They are rewarded for doing art. However, lots of people do art because they enjoy using their creativity to create works of art. Artists will often feel a sense of pride in a piece that they worked hard on. That is why many artists make art. The warm up that I learned from the most were the hand drawing assignments. I learned the most from this assignment because this was something I had trouble drawing before. Also, this assignment helped me draw other items better through the technique used. That is why I have learned the most from this warm up. The project that I think was my most successful was my perspective piece. The theme of the piece was perspective, and I created the piece by creating a point where lines would meet up. I created the piece using a ruler and making sure all the lines were either horizontal, vertical, or would tough the point when extended. I think this is my most successful piece because I like how it turned out, and how close it looks to the real thing.
